IVF and Infertility Drugs – Basics from New Jersey Doctor Eric Daiter

When you first suspect that you have a fertility problem, the resulting emotions are often overwhelming and devastating. Dr. Eric Daiter feels that it is important for you to realize two truths about infertility: first, that you are not the only couple to experience this situation; and that effective treatments, such as in vitro fertilization ( IVF) and infertility drugs, are constantly being developed and improved upon. Our New Jersey-area patients with the best chances of success are those who are willing to give up all their assumptions and commit themselves fully to accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Infertility is not as uncommon as most people believe. It is estimated that up to 15 percent of couples in the United States can benefit from IVF, infertility drugs, or some other method of fertility treatment. In recent years, women seeking to establish their career before giving birth have driven the numbers even higher.

As the numbers of Americans seeking infertility drugs and IVF have increased, the New Jersey Center for Fertility has been able to harness revolutionary new techniques to safely and successfully allow couples to conceive.

Causes of infertility

Most of the couples that visit our fertility center have never had a complete set of diagnostic tests to determine the cause of their infertility. As many as 95 percent of fertility difficulties can be classified into one of three causes:

Ovulation – Problems occur when the maturation and release of eggs is impaired due to age, hormonal imbalances, or past surgeries.

Male Factor – Responsible for up to 50 percent of infertility cases, problems with sperm may result from testicular injury, use of certain medications, or physical abnormalities.

Pelvic Factor – The physical characteristics of a woman’s pelvic area may be hostile to conception. Problems in this area include endometriosis and blockage of the fallopian tubes.

Treating infertility

Because knowledge and technology are expanding so rapidly in the field of infertility, the preferred or “optimal” treatment may vary from doctor to doctor. Also, different patients may require different levels of treatment; infertility drugs may work for one couple, while IVF is the only solution for another. New Jersey doctor Eric Daiter combines his extensive experience and training to create a treatment plan that is right for you.

When to seek infertility treatment

In general, couples should not worry about infertility until they have been attempting to become pregnant for at least a year. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule depending on each couple’s situation. Some situations that warrant evaluation sooner include:

The above information represents only a general overview of infertility and its treatments. Your personal situation and wishes will be the deciding factors in which therapies Dr. Daiter chooses for you.
